Search Engine Content Guidelines
Search Engines goals are to provide the best search
experience on the Web by directing searchers to high-quality
and relevant Web content in response to a search keyword
queries.
Pages Search Engines want to included
are:
- Original and unique content
(copywrite)
- Pages designed primarily
for humans, with search engine considerations secondary
- Texted Hyperlinks to help
people find interesting, related content
- Meta-tags (including title
and description) that describes the contents of
a Web page
- Good Web design in general
that navigates its visitors throughout the site.
Unfortunately, not all Web pages contain
information that is valuable to a user. Some pages
are created deliberately to trick the search engine
into offering inappropriate, redundant or poor-quality
search results; though many of these can be quite
affective for short term gain it is often called "spam."
Search Engines for the most part do not want these
pages in the index, those pages run the risk of being
penalized or even banned.
What Search Engines Considers Unwanted
Some, but not all, examples of the more common types
of pages that they do not want include:
- Pages that are not relevant
to the search results
- Directing users to other
pages
- Having the same content
as other pages
- Duplicate Sites
- Pages in great quantity,
with little value
- Methods to artificially
inflate search engine ranking
- Hidden text
- Pages that give the search
engine different content than what the end-user
sees
- Cross-linking sites
- Pages built primarily for
the search engines
- Misuse of competitor names
- Multiple sites offering
the same content
- Pages that use excessive
pop-ups
